“Now you’re looking for the secret. But you won’t find it because of course, you’re not really looking. You don’t really wanna know. You want to be fooled.” The Prestige (2006)
House Party

Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials
Mystery, time period, British
2026 Watched this because, of course I like an AG movie, but I’m also a BIG fan of Martin Freeman and like Helena Bonham Carter. This is technically a “limited series” but I think a one off, without another season, is a MOVIE. A house party happens, and somebody ends up dead… so who did it?
Very similar to other AC stories, so it was enjoyable!

Invitation to a Murder
Mystery, Siblings, Time period, British
2023
If you like this, the main character Miranda Green has two sequels, Murder at the Embassy and The Mystery of the Golden Spear
Take A Trip

The Woman in Cabin 10
Mystery Thriller, Based on a Book
2025 and it was a previous book club book with my group. I was not a fan… big part because of
Ghosts & The Supernatural

The Ruse
Mystery, Thriller, Paranormal
2024 movie that isn’t the best, but not a bad “background” show. I started this because of Veronica Cartwright who has been in classic movies such as Alien, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Birds etc. She plays a demanding older lady who has trouble keeping caregivers. I partially figured out what the ending would be, but it ended better than that.

Susan Hill’s the Small Hand: A Ghost Story
Mystery, Paranormal, Based on a Book, Scotland
2019

Wait Till Helen Comes
Mystery, Paranormal, Based on a YA Book, Canadian
2016 movie based off of an 80’s book (shown above).

The Gathering
Mystery, 90s
Made in 2002, this starts with a distracted mom hitting a pedestrian. Despite no major injuries, the mom feels guilt and let’s the girl recovery at her house (and immediately lets her hang out with her husband and kids alone which is weird).
Politics/Conspiracy

Enemy of the State
Action, CIA, Politics, Conspiracy Theorist, Data Protection
This 1998 movie was WAY AHEAD OF IT’S TIME, and is a MUST WATCH in this current technology environment.
A murder of a politician is caught on camera accidentally, and rogue government officials start using anti-privacy measures to get rid of the evidence. Amazing cast (so many people you’ll recognize), plus I love old Will Smith and Gene Hackman.

Man in the High Castle
Drama, Thriller, Political, Based on a Book, Dystopian
2015-2019 four completed seasons.
Domestic

The Beldham
Mystery, Light Horror, Relationships, Intergenerational, Caregiver, Motherhood, Woman Centered
2024

Peacock
Drama, Mystery, Split Personality
2010 release about a man Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer) with split personality- he presents male during the day for work, then at home, he becomes “his wife”. Life is going well until an accident in his backyard which puts too much spotlight into his life. This was a sad movie, and at the very least, I was glad to watch it because of the cast, but also to hear the story about somebody else’s life.
TRIVIA– The boss in this movie, Keith Carradine, is part of a HUGE dynasty of actors! His dad (Aaron in the Ten Commandments) was in 351 film and television credits, making him one of the most prolific English-speaking film and television actors of all time.

New Adults/Coming of Age

Super Dark Times
Drama, Psychological Thriller, Relationships, Teen Angst, 90s
Came out 2018 and won a Best Independent Film Award. This is about teenage life in the 90s- landline phones, oversexualized “locker room talk”, and not a lot of parental involvement. One day, while out goofing around, there is an accident which leads to paranoia and violence.
I REALLY liked the main character, and his mom, which made it SO hard to watch them go through their struggles (never liked his best friend in this movie). This was a good watch covering life at that time, but also a “what would you do” and struggling with your conscience.
