Merry And Bright Buckley is a holiday decorating contest for residents and businesses in Buckley, WA. The goal is to spread holiday cheer, bring life to our community, and celebrate the pride people take in their homes and storefronts.
This tradition has grown from years of community effort and creativity.
In 2018, Buckley resident Sandra Rae Smith founded Merry on Main, inspired by local high school students who wanted more ways to get involved. With the help of a Spark Grant, the group brought energy and connection to Main Street, focusing on kindness, creativity, and community.
In 2019, the Elf Triplets made their debut. Created by longtime resident Meri Kay Schiller and hidden around town by Crystal Smith, they became part of a fun holiday scavenger hunt that many still remember and hope to continue.
In 2020, during the uncertainty of COVID, staff from the City’s Community Services Department launched Buckley’s first holiday decorating competition. Even in a difficult year, 18 homes and businesses participated, bringing light and joy to the community.
In 2023, as the event continued to grow, the City looked for someone to carry it forward. That’s when Alisa (ME!) stepped in! As a Buckley Chamber of Commerce Board Member, and longtime community volunteer, she, along with her family, took on organizing the event. They’ve been part of Buckley’s holiday spirit for years, including hosting the Vintage Small Town Charmer light show.
And that brings us to today.
Merry & Bright continues to grow as a celebration of community, creativity, and connection. The event is open to homes and businesses throughout the Buckley 98321 area.
