House Party

By Mallory Arnold
Horror, Thriller, Paranormal
Group of writers people are called to a mansion to hear a will reading from a horror author…. who didn’t like any of them. They realize that if they want their rewards, they’ll have to earn it. Liked most of the characters… though not sure about the main person. They are very sharp, but came across as sometimes dumb when they are supposed to be mousy.
Moving In

GREAT book! As I was listening, my 79 yr old mom got so caught up in it, she reserved a copy from the library!
This is about a gal with not many friends, and no family, who inherits a house from a relative she didn’t know she had. There are weird messages scratched on surfaces, no mirrors on walls…. and everybody in town has a different story about the house that had a mass murder years ago. Is she safe in her new home?

Australian writer, so was good on audio to hear the voices. Point of view from gal who is an influencer living in a house with a bad reputation, and her feeling like she’s losing it. Relatable about having to “post” when not wanting to, so trying to be chipper haha. Didn’t end how I thought it would- clever.
Abandoned

By Richard Matheson
Classics, Horror
Got excited when I learned the author of this book, also wrote a bunch of books turned movies that I knew of such as I Am Legend, A Stir of Echoes, Somewhere in Time, and What Dreams May Come. The story itself was good, but it was weirdly sexist- women were not shown as bright, and when taken over by spirits, just the women were overly sexual. I’m assuming it’s more about the times it was written (1971). An old man asks for proof of life after death, so sends a few people to a house known for spiritual activity.
