In 1975, Jaws created the “summer blockbuster”, Microsoft was founded, and the Pet Rock became a bizarre sensation. This pivotal year featured the first successful cloning of a mammal (a frog), the introduction of VCRs, the premiere of Saturday Night Live, and the start of the disco era with “The Hustle”.
After watching a documentary on 1975 (my birth year!), we decided to start watching the hit movies from that year:
Drama

The Stepford Wives
Drama, Relationships, Sexism, Based on a Book, 70s
Everybody wants the perfect partner, and with the women’s movement becoming stronger, all a man wants at the end of the day is dinner on the table, and a demur wife. The men of Stepford think they have the perfect solution… whether the women want it or not. A 2004 remake is out with Nicole Kidman, Bette Midler, Matthew Broderick, and Glenn Close.
TRIVIA– The red headed tennis playing wife is Tina Louise (Gilligan’s Island), and the main husband, his real life daughter Mary Stuart Masterson (Fried Green Tomatoes), made her film debut in this movie.
